Moving Forward: Bagdad Begins Rebuild from Spur Fire

July 16, 2021 - Nearly seven weeks after the 150-acre Spur Fire ripped through Bagdad and reduced multiple homes to rubble, Freeport-McMoRan is moving swiftly to replace company homes lost in the blaze to expedite recovery efforts, even as scars remain fresh for many.

Stories of pandemonium around the May 27 event are many: residents frantically banging on doors to evacuate neighbors as flames barreled down on their own homes and company water tankers dousing homes to keep flames at bay – all occurring as firefighters and air tankers battled the blaze from the ground and sky.

July 6, 2021 - Students at the Diocesano School of Huelva in Spain recently learned about the responsible production of copper from Atlantic Copper employees in the first educational outreach in more than a year due to COVID-19.

Previously, more than 1,000 people, including schoolchildren of all ages, visited company operations each year to learn about the different stages of copper production as well as about the company’s environmental and social initiatives. During the pandemic, educational activities were suspended for safety reasons.

Sierrita Fights Back Against Buffelgrass

June 28, 2021 - Sierrita employees are fighting the good fight against buffelgrass – an invasive species that not only threatens other native plants but also creates a fire hazard in the already dry Arizona Sonoran Desert.

Recently, 11 Freeport-McMoRan employees from the Tucson, Ariz., area mine and nine community volunteers spent hours removing buffelgrass, using shovels and pick axes to dig out the plants from the roots.
