The Safford, Ariz., Technical Training team’s new virtual reality training system so closely mimics an actual mobile equipment cab environment, trainers believe it one day will supplant real vehicles as a safe alternative for operator training and certification.

Scholarships Benefit Communities Surrounding El Abra Operations

January 28, 2022 - What do an obstetrics nurse, a metallurgical engineer and a contract supervisor have in common?

Their careers, along with nearly 500 other students over the years, were made possible with the help of El Abra’s Indigenous Scholarship Program, which helps students from nearby villages attend a university or technical school. Scholarships are worth $2,200 per student per year and are renewable annually. The money may be used for tuition, computers and supplies.

PT Freeport Indonesia Supports Indigenous Papuan Kamoro Arts Exhibit

January 14, 2022 - PT Freeport Indonesia joined with two cultural foundations to host an exhibition and sale of Kamoro Art in Jakarta, Indonesia in late October.

Proceeds for the art sale went directly to the artists and the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation, an organization dedicated to the preservation of Kamoro traditional art in Mimika Regency, Papua.

Safford Employees Gain Understanding of Site Geology

January 7, 2022 – Safford, Ariz., employees are learning about the ground that supports their jobs.

Last summer, the Safford Geology team began hosting tours of the site’s three open pits – Dos Pobres, San Juan and Lone Star – to provide employees a crash course on the rock, soil and other geologic layers that contain and surround Safford’s copper deposits.
