April 7, 2021 - Javier Targhetta, President-Atlantic Copper, recently received the 2021 Andalusia Medal in the Economy and Business category for his efforts to create a positive economic impact in the community.

The medal recognizes people with a history of commitment to Andalusia, the southern region in Spain where Atlantic Copper is located. Up to 10 medals, representing various disciplines such as business, arts and sports, are given annually on Andalusia Day, February 28, commemorating the 1980 referendum that made Andalusia an autonomous region of Spain.

March 30, 2021 - In a harsh climate where it’s difficult for plants to grow and thrive, El Abra employees and community members worked together at the end of last year to build a greenhouse to nurture native seedlings as part of an ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The greenhouse accommodates up to 15,000 plants, where they are cared for until they can be replanted successfully in the extreme climate of the Ascotán salt flats, an elevation of 12,141 feet in Chile.

March 18, 2021 - The Provincial Municipality of Arequipa in Peru presented Cerro Verde with an award for its commitment to art and cultural conservation during a ceremony celebrating the city's historic center and its 20th anniversary as a World Cultural Heritage of Humanity site.

March 5, 2021 - With the recent achievement of Copper Mark status by Miami and El Paso operations, the company now has five sites around the world with the distinguished designation for safe and responsible production.

Developed by the International Copper Association and introduced in 2020, the Copper Mark is the first and only credible assurance framework to demonstrate the copper industry’s responsible production practices and industry contribution to the United Nations’Sustainable Development Goals.

March 3, 2021 - The University of Huelva in Spain awarded Miguel Palacios, Vice President-North America Smelting and Refining, with its Medal of Honor 2021 today for his significant contributions to the university and community. Watch the video.

March 2, 2021 - The pandemic put a lot on hold in 2020, but it didn’t stop employees from giving back to our communities through the company’s annual United Way campaign for North America sites.

Together, employees pledged close to $3.5 million, which grew to nearly $10 million when combined with the company match.
