July 5, 2023 - After almost a quarter century on the job, Henderson operations has retired and replaced a piece of the giant magic carpet that delivers its world-class molybdenum ore from mine to mill.

In May, work was completed on the first and largest section of the three conveyor belts that transport moly ore from the Henderson mine near Empire, Colorado, more than 15 miles west across the Continental Divide to the Henderson mill.

June 23, 2023 - Employees at the company’s El Abra operation in Chile have begun doing a little more to help the environment – one lunchbreak at a time.

The site recently embarked on an effort to replace the 1,650 trays in its two cafeterias with trays produced from recycled plastic water bottles used at the site. Already, new trays are in service at one cafeteria with the remaining trays expected by the end of the year. The older, worn-out trays also will be sent for recycling into pellets to make new trays for use by El Abra or elsewhere.

The site received the Community Activities Restrictions Enforcement or CARE award for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the National Search and Rescue award for airlifting 10 plane crash victims, including newborn twins, to safety.

March 21, 2023 - A baby guanaco found wandering alone on a highway is now safely back in its herd, thanks to the quick action of wildlife specialists at Freeport-McMoRan’s Cerro Verde operation in Peru.

A family returning home from Arequipa recently found the llama-like creature wandering alone on the old Pan-American Highway near the mine and brought it to Cerro Verde, which is well known in the region for its work to protect the animals. Guanacos are considered critically endangered in Peru, with only about 3,500 of them scattered across five South American countries.
