Freeport Project Selected to Receive $80 Million from U.S. Department of Energy

March 22, 2024 - Freeport-McMoRan has been selected to receive $80 million through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy for a project to use geothermal energy to heat leaching stockpiles in Morenci and Safford and integrate battery energy storage and microgrid operations to improve electrical reliability in Morenci.

Around the Company in Pictures: Turning Tailings Into Treasure

March 7, 2024 - Visitors to the most recent Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in Arizona – one of the largest such shows in the world – learned about the many uses for tailings, the material left over from the processing of mined ore.

Members of Freeport-McMoRan’s Sustainable Development team participated in the annual four-day show for the first time as part of an effort to demonstrate the potential for tailings to be transformed into a wide range of market-viable products.

February 21, 2024 - Freeport-McMoRan is one of the best places in the United States to work, according to new rankings by Forbes Magazine.

Freeport was recognized on the Forbes America’s Best Large Employers 2024 list, which the publication describes as a “resource to both job seekers and to companies that are interested in learning how their competitors are performing in regard to employee satisfaction.”

Freeport Named One of America’s 100 Most JUST Companies for Fifth Time

February 8, 2024 - For the fifth time and second consecutive year, Freeport-McMoRan has been selected as one of America’s 100 Most JUST Companies based on evaluations of what the public views as the most important and responsible business behaviors.

Freeport finished 91st overall, first in the Basic Resources category and first among the 11 companies in that category for dealing with workers, communities and the environment.

Miami Smelter Artisans Craft “Copper Coral” for National Mining Association

January 9, 2024 - The artisans at Freeport-McMoRan’s Miami, Ariz., smelter recently created a “copper coral” sculpture and custom display case that were donated to the National Mining Association and now adorn the organization’s lobby in Washington, D.C.

The copper casting was done by Victor Melendez, Supervisor, Smelter Operations, and Rafael Anaya, Smelter Operator II. Melendez learned the technique from a former supervisor in 2013 and has produced more than 100 pieces of the artwork since.
