PTFI Employees Gain Expertise as They Fire Up New Smelter in Manyar

June 19, 2024 - It is not just the buildings and equipment that are being put to the test during the commissioning of PT Freeport Indonesia’s smelter in Manyar. The people doing the work are being tested themselves.

Aside from being a massive construction project, the smelter and related components will require almost 800 employees to keep it going once it’s fully operational. Those people need to be recruited, hired, trained and equipped with everything from protective equipment to radios. So far, about 700 have been hired.

Unique Recreational Space Emerges from Former Milling Site

May 3, 2024 - A former Freeport-McMoRan site in southern Arizona has been transformed into recreational space accessible to the entire community.

Following four years of planning, the 87-acre Man in the Maze Trails Park officially opened to the public in March. Originally known as Parcel 30, the park incorporates numerous biodiversity, cultural and educational elements. These include trails with interpretive signage covering topics such as traditional food plants of the Tohono O’odham Nation, pollinator conservation and passive rainwater harvesting.

El Abra Contributions Help Rebuild the Homes and Lives of Families Who ‘Lost Everything’ in 2023 Forest Fires

April 3, 2024 - Families who lost their homes last year in devastating forest fires in the Araucania region in Chile are moving into new houses built with the help of a donation from Freeport-McMoRan’s El Abra operation.

In all, 48 fully furnished houses were built through a partnership between the Chilean Mining Council and the local government, 42 in the town of Purén and six in Vilcún. Both are communities made up largely of indigenous families.

The inauguration ceremony for the newly completed homes was held earlier this month.

Freeport Project Selected to Receive $80 Million from U.S. Department of Energy

March 22, 2024 - Freeport-McMoRan has been selected to receive $80 million through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy for a project to use geothermal energy to heat leaching stockpiles in Morenci and Safford and integrate battery energy storage and microgrid operations to improve electrical reliability in Morenci.

Around the Company in Pictures: Turning Tailings Into Treasure

March 7, 2024 - Visitors to the most recent Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in Arizona – one of the largest such shows in the world – learned about the many uses for tailings, the material left over from the processing of mined ore.

Members of Freeport-McMoRan’s Sustainable Development team participated in the annual four-day show for the first time as part of an effort to demonstrate the potential for tailings to be transformed into a wide range of market-viable products.
