Freeport Retiree Inducted into New Mexico Mining Association Hall of Fame

September 24, 2024 - Thomas Shelley, former Environmental Manager at the company’s Tyrone mine in Grant County, N.M., recently was inducted into the New Mexico Mining Association’s Hall of Fame, capping off a 30-plus-year career that spanned from the Chino and Tyrone mines in New Mexico to the Tenke Fungurume mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Freeport Santiago Workers Help Restore Fire-ravaged Gardens

September 10, 2024 - Volunteer workers from Freeport’s Santiago office recently planted native trees to reforest the Botanical Garden of Viña del Mar, which was devastated in wildfires that ripped through the central Chilean area in February.

The 15 Freeport workers spent the day with volunteers from other mining companies to plant 210 native tree species such as Molle, Chilean Palm, Quillay, Romerillo, Palqui, Quebracho, Boldo and Huingan.

Freeport’s Biodiversity Work Receives Top Honors from Wildlife Habitat Council

June 20, 2024 - Freeport-McMoRan’s work to protect biodiversity and wildlife habitats was recognized recently with multiple awards – including the prestigious Employee Engagement Award – from the Wildlife Habitat Council.

In addition to the companywide recognition, Freeport’s Cerro Verde operation in Peru and PT Freeport Indonesia each received two awards for their work to study and protect key species and to conserve or reclaim native wildlife habitat.
