December 23, 2025 - Tony Wenas, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, recently was recognized for his leadership of the company through a critical period with the BIG-40 Award in the Mining Crisis Resilience and Strategic Stability category.

Wenas was cited for his strong and transformational leadership at PTFI and his “resilience in facing operational challenges, natural disasters and geopolitical issues” to ensure the company’s strategic stability.

The announcement noted Wenas’ leadership throughout the incident in September in which wet material flowed into the Grasberg Block Cave, fatally injuring seven miners and prompting a prolonged shutdown of the operation. Wenas also was recognized for his management during a time of regulatory uncertainty and divestment negotiations, and for ensuring the “highest standards of occupational safety and health in world-class mines.”

The BIG-40 Award is presented by Bisnis Indonesia, a national business media organization, to 40 figures who have had a significant influence on the progress of Indonesia. The awards cover a wide range of fields with an impact on a national scale, including economics and business; social and political; sports, culture and the environment.
