“Every year, we hold celebrations and foster togetherness with the community,” said Arnold Sanadi, coordinator of the 80th Independence Day Committee for PTFI’s Lowlands Operations. “It’s not just about organizing events but ensuring they bring benefits and positive impacts for residents.”

As part of the two-week anniversary celebration in August, activities included:
  • 165 PTFI employees and residents of Ayuka and Tipuka teaming up to clean their communities
  • Sports and arts competitions
  • Health education for children
  • Eye checkups for 1,000 children, with 500 free eyeglasses provided
  • Soccer training hosted by the Papua Football Academy
  • Entertainment at the Tipuka Village Hall Field

In all, PTFI organized the activities intended to help foster nationalism and cooperation at five work locations from upstream in Papua – including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana and Nabire – to downstream in Gresik, East Java and Jakarta.

Indonesia’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on August 17 to mark the country’s proclamation of independence from Dutch colonial rule in 1945.
