Freeport’s Conservation Efforts Earn Top Honors at Tandem Global Conference
June 19, 2026 - Freeport received the Corporate Conservation Leadership Award, the highest honor presented at the recent Tandem Global Conference along with several other recognitions.
The Corporate Conservation Leadership Award is presented annually to a single company that demonstrates an enterprise-wide commitment to global conservation goals. The recognition honors organizations that embed conservation and environmental stewardship across their operations rather than limiting efforts to individual projects.
Tandem Global, formed through the merger of the Wildlife Habitat Council and World Environment Center, works with companies worldwide to advance biodiversity, conservation education and environmental performance. Freeport has partnered with the organization and its legacy initiatives for years, building a portfolio of certified programs and sustained conservation efforts.
While the top honor recognizes companywide commitment, Freeport also received two project-level awards.
The Green Infrastructure Award recognized Freeport’s Copper Queen Branch project in Bisbee, Ariz. The project focuses on erosion control, stormwater management and long-term stabilization of mine tailings through engineered reclamation, integrating soil covers, regrading and water management systems with native vegetation and habitat features to support biodiversity and create a self-sustaining landscape.
The company also was recognized with the Species of Concern Award, which was earned for New Mexico Operations’ work supporting the southwestern willow flycatcher. The work there focuses on restoring and enhancing riparian habitat along the Gila River to support the endangered birds and other sensitive species in the area. The operation has been recognized for its work with the southwestern willow flycatcher in the past.
Freeport attendees also received a Spirit Award at the event, an informal recognition celebrating team engagement, creativity and camaraderie during the conference.
“We are honored by the recognition and encouraged by what it represents,” said Bill Cobb, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer. “Freeport has a history of conservation efforts across our portfolio, and these awards demonstrate what the words ‘responsible production’ really mean in an environmental context. Our site and corporate teams have worked hard over the years to accomplish outcomes that truly show why we are leaders in corporate conservation.”
