Morenci Employee Achieves 50 Years with Perfect Safety Record
March 24, 2026 - Working more than 50 years at a single mine site is rare.
Achieving that milestone without a single safety incident is even more remarkable. Frank Delacruz, Support Equipment Operator II at the company’s Morenci site in Arizona, has done exactly that, building a career defined by consistency, care for others and personal responsibility.
Throughout his career, Delacruz has demonstrated that safety excellence is not the result of a single action, but of thousands of everyday decisions. He attributes his safety record to following procedures, staying alert to changing and looking out for those around him.
“Reaching 50 years of safe service with Freeport at Morenci is both humbling and deeply meaningful,” Delacruz said. “What began as a job became a career and a second home, grounded in a shared commitment to looking out for one another and returning home safely every day.
“I’m grateful for the people, the trust and the safety values that have guided this journey and made this milestone possible.”
That same dedication extends beyond the mine. Outside of work, Delacruz spends part of his time coaching softball pitchers, sharing his time and knowledge with young athletes. A number of the athletes he has mentored have even gone on to play at the college level.
Delacruz’s safety record reflects the values that guide safe production every day, on the job and in the community, said Ricky Miller, Maintenance Superintendent-Morenci.
“Frank’s career shows what’s possible when commitment is lived every single day,” Miller said. “He has set an example for all of us – from new hires to seasoned employees – that safety and leadership aren’t about one big moment, but about making the right decision every shift.
“Frank’s dedication to looking out for himself and others, and his willingness to mentor along the way, has left a lasting mark on Morenci.”
