PT Freeport Indonesia Uses Best Technology Available to Test for Coronavirus

June 9, 2020 - Helping mitigate the spread of COVID-19 is a community effort, which is why Freeport Indonesia is pleased to use its new PCR testing machines – often referred to as the “gold standard of testing” – to analyze COVID-19 tests from not only employees, but from around Papua, Indonesia as well.

“This is one part of an overall effort that includes contact tracing, other testing, social distancing and everything else we’ve been working on,” said Dr. Richard Vinroot, Vice President and company Medical Director. “But make no mistake, this is a very important part of that circle. Purchasing not one but two PCR (polymerase chain reaction) units shows our commitment to protecting our people.”

Rather than sending samples off-site for analysis, which could often take days for results, PTFI converted, certified and staffed its own labs using the new PCR units. Now, these units are ready to help not just employees, but also the surrounding communities. We do this because safety is our top priority and we are in this together. Shape
