March 3, 2017

Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan company, promotes the creation, improvement and development of micro and small enterprises through its various programs.

The Yachaqmaki Weaving Collective is a group of dozens of entrepreneur artisans from the Uchumayo region of Peru. The Collective is sponsored by Cerro Verde and provides machine weaving training to hand weavers, including preparation for spinning and dying natural fibers, garment creation, marketing and quality control.

The Yachaqmaki weaving collective participated in the 2016 Alpaca Fashion Week event in October 2016. The Event was organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Export and Tourism and the International Alpaca Association. The Alpaca Fashion Week was an opportunity for designers to show off their products, meet with international buyers and establish agreements for export.
